Born and raised in Turkey, Ayse completed a bachelor’s degree in Theology and a master’s degree in Psychology of Religion before coming to Canada. She then completed a master’s degree in Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy and is currently pursuing a PhD in the same field, both from Martin Luther University College (formerly Waterloo Lutheran Seminary) which is federated with Wilfred Laurier University. She has been receiving Psychotherapy and PCE (Pastoral Clinical Education) training for the past 4 years and is an associate member of CASC (Canadian Association for Spiritual Care).
Ayse has experience practicing psychotherapy and psycho-spiritual therapy in settings such as hospitals and family counselling centers. She currently serves as a chaplain with the Muslim Chaplaincy of Waterloo. In her free time, she likes to travel and try different foods. She is also learning to play the piano and is passionate about the traditional Islamic art form known as Tezhip (Islamic illumination).
